About Winton
Winton is a ghost town in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, sitting about 5 miles north-northeast of Rock Springs. Its origins trace to the Megeath Coal Company, which operated a post office here under the name Winton. The town was also known as Megeath during that period. When Union Pacific acquired the Megeath Coal Company, the name Winton was retained under new ownership. Today the settlement is abandoned, and visitors should expect little more than remnants of a former coal-company community in the high desert landscape of southwestern Wyoming.
