About Whitepine

Whitepine is a ghost town in Gunnison County, Colorado, situated along the headwaters of Tomichi Creek south of Tomichi Pass. It began as a mining camp in 1880 and is reached today via Gunnison County Road 888, roughly ten miles north of Sargents.

Visitors come to explore what remains of the old camp and to take in the surrounding high-country setting. The remote location and mountain roads mean access is most practical in the warmer months, and travelers should expect conditions typical of a high-elevation Colorado ghost town — limited infrastructure and variable road quality.
