White Bluffs

White Bluffs was a farming community in Benton County, Washington, that existed until 1943, when the federal government cleared it — along with the nearby town of Hanford — to establish the nuclear production facility now known as the Hanford Site. The forced depopulation ended the town's life abruptly, leaving its story tied directly to the dawn of the atomic age.

Because the site falls within the Hanford nuclear reservation, public access is strictly limited and visits are not simply a matter of driving up.
