Wendling

Tucked in Lane County, Oregon, northeast of Marcola, Wendling was built from the ground up as a company town serving the Booth-Kelly Lumber Company. Its very existence traces back to a San Francisco investor named George X. Wendling, whose financial backing was central to Booth-Kelly's push into the Mohawk area — and whose name the town ultimately carried. A post office kept the community on the map from 1899 until 1952, when it closed for good.

Today Wendling is a ghost town. Visitors should expect a quiet, rural setting rather than a preserved historic district — the lumber-industry origins have left little behind for the casual explorer. It suits those drawn to the atmosphere of vanished company towns and the surrounding Lane County landscape.
