About Waterman

Waterman, sometimes called Waterman Flat, is a ghost town in Wheeler County, Oregon, that once served as a small cattle-ranching community. It sits at the junction of Richmond Road, Parrish Creek Road, and Waterman Road, positioned southeast of Richmond and northeast of Mitchell. Waterman Road connects to U.S. Route 26 roughly 10 miles to the south.

The community supported a post office for nearly six decades, from 1887 to 1944, with Caleb N. Thornburg serving as its first postmaster. Today Waterman is an unincorporated community, and visitors will find little beyond the rural road intersection and the open ranching landscape that defined the area's past.
