Washington Camp

Washington Camp is a historic mining community in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, that has dwindled to a handful of remaining residents. The camp once supported a post office that opened in May 1880, operating for a decade before relocating to the nearby settlement of Duquesne in June 1890 — a sign of the shifting fortunes common to communities built around mining.

Visitors today will find very little of the original camp standing, and what does survive sits on private property belonging to the area's current residents. One practical option for those wanting to spend time in the area is the Mad Miner Inn, which offers lodging locally. The ruins of Duquesne, a companion ghost town, are located about one mile to the southeast and offer an additional point of historic interest for those exploring the area.
