About Uravan

Uravan is a ghost town in western Montrose County, Colorado, established in 1936 as a company town by U.S. Vanadium Corporation. Its purpose was the extraction of vanadium ore, with uranium produced as a byproduct — used at the time primarily as a yellow pigment in ceramics. The town still appears on some maps despite no longer functioning as a community.

Visitors today are coming to a former industrial settlement rather than a preserved historic district. The facts on record are limited, so expectations should be modest: this is a place of historical curiosity tied to an unusual chapter in western Colorado's resource-extraction past, not a developed tourist destination.
