Stauffer

Stauffer is a ghost town in Lake County, Oregon, with roots in the homesteading era. Settlers first arrived around 1910, but the unforgiving high-desert environment proved too much to sustain a lasting community, and by 1918 the population had fallen sharply. No one lives there today, and no structures have survived.

Visitors will find an empty landscape with nothing standing on the site. The nearest town is Hampton, Oregon, about 21 miles to the northwest. The site lies roughly 12 miles south of U.S. Route 20, the highway running between Bend and Burns, making it reachable by road but well off any beaten path. Come prepared for a remote, austere setting with little to see beyond the open terrain itself.
