Stargo

Stargo is a ghost town in Greenlee County, Arizona, situated roughly two miles northwest of Morenci. The community took shape in the 1930s inside a canyon known as Apache Gulch, when workers and their families arrived to take jobs at the Morenci mines as Phelps Dodge expanded into open-pit operations. The settlement's name traces back to the Stargo Silverbelt Mining Company, which had worked the area beforehand. Residents called the neighborhood home well into the early 2000s, making it a relatively recent addition to Arizona's roster of abandoned places.

Only the upper portion of the old development survives today, so visitors will find partial remains rather than an intact townsite. The setting near present-day Morenci gives it reasonable access compared to more remote ghost towns, but the remnants are limited and the site rewards curiosity more than extended exploration.
