Stanton

Tucked at the base of Rich Hill in Yavapai County, Arizona, Stanton began its life as a stagecoach stop called Antelope Station before a gold-driven era transformed it into a rough-and-tumble settlement. The town took its current name from Chuck Stanton, a businessman and known crook who seized control of the place in the 1870s. Situated roughly twenty miles north of Wickenburg, it sits in close company with the ghost towns of Octave and Weaver.

Unlike many ghost towns that have faded entirely into the desert, Stanton survives in an unusual form — the site now operates as an RV park, meaning visitors will find a lived-in quality rather than pure historic ruin. It remains a worthwhile stop for history-minded travelers drawn to Arizona's gold heritage and the cluster of nearby ghost towns that make this corner of Yavapai County a rewarding detour.
