About Southport
Southport is a ghost town in Coos County, Oregon, situated along Southport Creek near its confluence with Isthmus Slough, roughly six and a half miles south of Coos Bay at an elevation of about 30 feet. What was once an active community in this low-lying coastal area has faded entirely, leaving no functioning settlement behind.
Visitors today will find little in the way of obvious remains — this is a sparsely documented site, and the honest expectation is a quiet, marshy locale shaped by the creek and slough rather than any dramatic ruins or infrastructure. The setting along Isthmus Slough may hold some appeal for those drawn to Oregon's coastal waterways and the atmosphere of a place that quietly disappeared.
