Skagit City

Skagit City is a ghost town in Skagit County, Washington, situated on the western bank of the South Fork Skagit River, less than a mile southeast of the river's north-south fork. Its origins trace to Barker's Trading Post, which opened along the river in 1869 and drew early settlers to the site. By 1872 the town had grown into a notable river transportation center, prospering through the late 1800s before falling into decline as river access conditions changed.

Visitors today will find little more than the natural riverside setting — the town itself has not survived as a standing landmark. The location appeals primarily to those interested in Washington's early settlement history and the quiet scenery along the South Fork Skagit River.
