About Silver City

Tucked at the mouth of Dragon Canyon on the west flank of the East Tintic Mountains in northeast Juab County, Silver City is a ghost town roughly 90 miles south-southwest of Salt Lake City. It grew out of mining strikes in 1869 and sat within the Tintic Mining District, a region that yielded silver, gold, copper, lead, and bismuth. The town survived for about six decades before the mines gave out and residents departed for good around 1930.

Visitors today are coming to a genuine ghost town, so expectations should be grounded accordingly. The setting in central Utah near Dragon Canyon provides the main draw — a quiet, historically layered landscape where the story of a once-active mining community plays out in whatever structural remnants and scattered traces remain on the ground.
