About Sheridan

Sheridan is a ghost town in Pennington County, South Dakota, that began as an early mining camp known as Golden City. It briefly served as the county seat of Pennington County between 1877 and 1878, making it one of the area's earliest organized settlements before it faded from prominence.

Today, Sheridan is entirely submerged beneath Sheridan Lake, meaning there are no visible surface remains to explore. Visitors drawn by the history will find only open water where the settlement once stood. The lake itself offers recreational opportunities, but the town is simply gone from view.
