About San Joaquin City
San Joaquin City is a vanished Gold Rush-era settlement in San Joaquin County, California. Founded in 1849, it occupied the west bank of the San Joaquin River at a location now marked by where Airport Way crosses the river. In its day it served as a meaningful stop along the old River Road connecting Banta to Grayson's Ferry, the community now known as Grayson in Stanislaus County.
Today no townsite remains in any meaningful sense, and visitors will find little beyond the river setting itself. The site is of interest mainly to history-minded travelers curious about the valley's early transportation corridors.
