Ruthven

Ruthven is a ghost town in Wilcox County, Alabama, situated along Bear Creek near what is now County Road 2, roughly three and a half miles southwest of Pine Apple. The town took its name from Ruthven, a division of Lincolnshire, and grew up around the lumber industry in the early twentieth century. Incorporated in 1924, it sat along the Selma to Flomaton branch of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and by 1930 had reached a population of 523, placing it second only to the county seat of Camden among Wilcox County towns.

Today Ruthven is a ghost town, and visitors should expect little in the way of formal infrastructure or preserved structures. The rural setting along Bear Creek and the surrounding Wilcox County countryside makes it of interest mainly to history enthusiasts and photographers curious about Alabama's vanished small-town railroad communities. Access via County Road 2 is straightforward, though the site itself offers no developed amenities.
