About Royal
Royal is a ghost town in Carbon County, Utah, with roots in the early 1900s coal mining era. The settlement changed hands — and names — multiple times over its short life, going by Bear Canyon, then Cameron, then Rolapp, before the Royal Coal Company acquired it and gave the town its final identity.
Visitors today will find only modest remnants in Price Canyon: a few stone walls, the openings of a couple of mines, and a single miner's dwelling. It is a sparse but evocative site for anyone interested in Utah's industrial past.
