Randolph

Randolph occupies an interesting double identity in Coos County, Oregon. The name today refers to an unincorporated community sitting on the north bank of the Coquille River, roughly seven miles north of Bandon and about three miles from the Pacific Ocean. But the original Randolph stood approximately three miles to the northwest, near what is now Whiskey Run Beach, where it boomed as a "black sand" gold mining town in the 1850s.

That original townsite is the ghost town. No significant structures survive at the location, leaving visitors with little more than the coastal setting itself — the landscape near Whiskey Run Beach — as evidence of what was once a boomtown. Anyone drawn here by the ghost town story should arrive with modest expectations: this is a site defined more by absence than by visible ruins.
