Quartzburg

Quartzburg is a ghost town in Mariposa County, California, born from the Gold Rush era as a mining settlement along Burns Creek. Before taking the name Quartzburg, the community went by several names tied to its location and early settlers, including Burns' Creek, Burns' Camp, Burns' Ranch, and Burns' Diggings.

The site sits in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada, roughly two miles upstream from the neighboring town of Hornitos. Like many Gold Rush settlements, it faded over time and today qualifies as a true ghost town. Visitors should expect minimal or no standing structures and a rural, undeveloped setting rather than an interpreted historic site.

Access is via the rural roads of Mariposa County. Spring and fall offer the most comfortable conditions in the foothill terrain, while summer heat can be intense and winter rains may affect road conditions on backcountry routes.
