About Primero
Primero is a ghost town in Las Animas County, Colorado, built around coal extraction for the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company in the early 1900s. At its peak it functioned as a company town, its existence tied entirely to that industrial operation.
Visitors today will find the remnants of that era set against the Colorado landscape. As with most ghost towns of this type, expect scattered structural remains rather than a preserved townsite, and come with realistic expectations about signage and maintained access.
