Peterman's Station

Peterman's Station is a ghost town in Yuma County, Arizona, occupying a site along the Gila River where a ranch and stage station once served travelers crossing the desert Southwest. The location owes its origins to a man named Peterman, who established the outpost in 1857 to serve the San Antonio-San Diego Mail Line. When that mail route gave way to the Butterfield Overland Mail, the station continued operating as a stop along that successor line, sitting roughly 19 miles east of Filibuster Camp and 12 miles west of Griswell's Station.

Today the site is a quiet remnant of early overland travel history with little infrastructure for visitors. The remote Gila River setting defines the experience more than any standing structures. Those drawn to historic stage routes and desert landscapes will find the location evocative, though access and on-the-ground remains are minimal.
