About Orodell

Orodell — also recorded as Oro Dell — is a ghost town sitting at the northwest edge of La Grande along the Grande Ronde River in Union County, Oregon. Once an unincorporated community, it holds a notable place in regional history as the site of the Grande Ronde Valley's first sawmill, built in the summer of 1862 by either Charles Fox or Stephen Coffin after an earlier joint-stock venture involving Coffin and local settlers fell through in 1861.

Visitors today will find little in the way of formal infrastructure or preserved structures — this is a quiet, historically layered spot rather than a developed heritage site. The riverside setting near La Grande is its primary draw for those curious about early Oregon settlement history.
