Ordnance

Ordnance is a ghost town in Umatilla County, Oregon, located southwest of Hermiston near the junction of Interstate 84/U.S. Route 30 and Interstate 82. Its origins trace to 1941, when the U.S. Department of War established the Umatilla Ordnance Depot in northern Umatilla County. The town took its name from that military installation, and a post office opened there in 1943. As federal funding for the depot declined following World War II, the community faded, and by the 1960s Ordnance had ceased to function as a going town.

Visitors today will find little more than a remnant of a community shaped entirely by wartime military activity. The site sits in a readily accessible part of the county given its proximity to two major interstates, making it a straightforward stop for anyone curious about Oregon's World War II–era history.
