About Murderer's Grave Station

Murderer's Grave Station — also known historically as Kinyon Station and Kenyon Station — was once a working stagecoach stop along the Butterfield Overland Mail route, positioned beside the Gila River in what is now Maricopa County, Arizona. Its placement was deliberate: travelers moving between Oatmans Flat Station, roughly 20 miles to the west, and Gila Ranch Station, about 15 miles to the east, needed a reliable midpoint along this demanding desert corridor.

Today the site sits near the Painted Rock Reservoir, and like many remote Butterfield stops, there is little left to mark what once served as a critical link in overland communication. Visitors drawn to the area for its history will find a stark but evocative desert river setting rather than standing structures or formal interpretation.
