Mount Pisgah

Between 1846 and 1852, Mount Pisgah served as a semi-permanent settlement and way station along the Mormon Trail in what is now Union County, Iowa. Situated near the small community of Thayer in Jones Township, it provided a stopping point for travelers moving between Garden Grove and Council Bluffs during a significant period of westward migration.

Today the site is part of the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail and is remembered as the birthplace of church leader Helaman Pratt. Visitors can find a memorial at 1704 Mount Pisgah Road in Thayer. The setting reflects the quiet rural character of the region, and the historic significance of the place makes it a meaningful stop for those tracing Mormon Pioneer history across Iowa.
