About Mollie

Mollie is an extinct village in Blackford County, Indiana, with roots in the Indiana Gas Boom. The discovery of gas and crude oil in the region during the late 1800s drove an economic surge that lasted roughly from the 1880s through the 1920s, and Mollie found itself well-positioned — sitting near the area's oil fields and serving as a stop on the Fort Wayne, Cincinnati, and Louisville Railroad, making it a practical base for oil workers of the era.

When the boom faded, so did the community. Today Mollie is a ghost town, and visitors should expect little more than a quiet rural landscape with few if any standing remnants. It holds appeal mainly for history enthusiasts and photographers drawn to the faded traces of Indiana's oil and gas heritage.
