Meyers Mill

Meyers Mill is a ghost town in southwestern Barnwell County, South Carolina, with roots in the late 19th century, when the Meyer family first established a community here. Growth came after a rail line brought a train stop to the area, drawing enough activity to give the settlement its identity.

In 1951, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission absorbed the community along with surrounding land to create the Savannah River Plant, effectively ending Meyers Mill as a place people called home. Today the site falls within a heavily controlled federal installation, and public access is not available in any practical sense. Visitors with a historical interest in the area will find the story best explored through regional archives or museum resources rather than an on-the-ground visit.
