Masten

Masten, in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, began as a lumber mill company town around 1905 and remained an active settlement until the industry wound down by 1930. During the 1930s the site found a second life as a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, operating through 1940. The last residents departed in 1941, and the place has been a ghost town ever since.

Today the old townsite functions as the trailhead for the Old Loggers Path, a loop hiking trail. Visitors come less to inspect ruins than to begin their hike from a location steeped in working-forest history. The setting in the Lycoming County backcountry reflects that layered past — lumber town, federal work camp, and now a quiet gateway into the surrounding woods.
