About Masonic
Masonic is a ghost town in Mono County, California, sitting roughly 10 miles northeast of Bridgeport. It developed across three distinct sections — upper, middle, and lower town — and at its height supported a population of around 1,000 people. Gold was first found here in the 1860s, drawing settlers and fueling growth, though production had wound down by the early 1900s and the community eventually faded away.
Visitors today will find only scattered ruins, with the middle town holding most of what little survives. It is a sparse but evocative site, best suited to those with an interest in California history and the patience to read a landscape where time has done considerable work.
