Marinette

Marinette was a ghost town situated in Maricopa County, Arizona, just northwest of present-day Peoria, along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. In the early twentieth century the site was actively promoted as agricultural land, with promoters highlighting its potential for growing citrus fruit, apricots, olives, and related crops.

Ownership of the town shifted over the decades. In 1920 the Southwest Cotton Company, a Goodyear subsidiary, acquired the property. Later, through the late 1940s and into the 1950s, the J. G. Boswell Company controlled much of the surrounding land for agricultural purposes. The town ceased to exist in 1957.

Today Marinette sits within the heavily developed suburban landscape west of Phoenix. Visitors should expect little to no physical remains of the original settlement. The site is of interest primarily to history enthusiasts curious about the region's early agricultural past, and photography of the surrounding landscape is the most realistic activity for anyone making the trip.
