Lulu City

Lulu City is a ghost town tucked inside Rocky Mountain National Park in the Kawuneeche Valley, Grand County, Colorado. Its brief existence traces back to 1879, when prospector Joe Shipler discovered silver in the area. The following year, the Middle Park and Grand River Land Improvement Company — backed by Fort Collins businessman Benjamin F. Burnett and rancher William Baker — built the town up in earnest. Burnett named it after his daughter. By 1881 the settlement had gained some footing, though like many boom-era towns it proved short-lived.

Visitors today reach Lulu City exclusively on foot — there is no road access. The site sits within the national park, so expect a backcountry hiking experience rather than a developed attraction. Remains are sparse, and the Kawuneeche Valley setting is the real draw. Summer and early fall offer the most reliable window for a visit, while winter snowpack makes the area difficult or dangerous to access.
