About Logtown
Logtown, also called Empire City, is a former mining town situated along California State Route 49 in El Dorado County, roughly 3 miles southwest of Placerville. Its origins are somewhat uncertain, though the community showed up in the US census as early as 1850.
Historically, Logtown functioned as a modest waypoint rather than a major destination, earning only brief mentions from those passing through the county. Little documentation survives to paint a fuller picture of its peak years or decline.
