Leeland

Tucked into the Amargosa Valley in Nye County, Nevada, Leeland began as a railroad support point in 1906. By 1907 a station had been established, and the settlement took on a specific logistical role: raw materials out of the nearby California mining community of Lee were hauled to Leeland and loaded onto trains for onward transport.

Today Leeland is a ghost town, and visitors should arrive with modest expectations. The sparse documentation of the site suggests little survives above ground. What the place does offer is the quiet, austere character of the Amargosa Valley itself — open desert terrain and the faint outline of a story about how remote extraction industries once moved their goods to market.
