Leadfield

Tucked into Titus Canyon within the Grapevine Mountains, Leadfield is a ghost town sitting at 4,058 feet inside Death Valley National Park in Inyo County, California. Its roots lie in mining, and what was once an active unincorporated community has long since gone quiet, leaving behind the remnants of that earlier era.

Today Leadfield is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a recognition of its historical significance. Visitors driving the famous one-way Titus Canyon road pass directly through the townsite, where weathered structures and scattered ruins set against the canyon's dramatic rock walls make for compelling photography and a tangible sense of the past.

Death Valley's extreme summer heat makes the fall-through-spring window the practical time to visit. The narrow, unpaved Titus Canyon route typically requires a high-clearance vehicle, and conditions can change with weather, so checking with the park before heading out is strongly advised.
