Kokomo

Kokomo is a ghost town in Summit County, Colorado, with roots in silver and gold mining. At its peak the settlement supported a population of over 10,000 residents, making it a significant community before it was gradually depopulated through the 1960s.

Visitors today will find the remnants of that once-busy place set against Summit County's high-country terrain. As with most ghost towns, what survives above ground is typically fragmentary — scattered structural remains and the atmosphere of a place that time has reclaimed. Photography and quiet exploration are the main draws.

Access is seasonal given Colorado's mountain winters, and the site is best visited in the warmer months when roads are clear and conditions are safe. Winter brings genuine hazards, and travelers should plan accordingly.
