Klondyke

Tucked into the Aravaipa Valley west of Safford, Arizona, Klondyke got its start around 1900 when miners fresh from Alaska's Klondike Gold Rush settled the area and named it in tribute to their northern adventure. The Galiuro Mountains rise to the southeast and the Santa Teresa Mountains frame the northern horizon, giving the site a rugged, remote character that persists today.

As a ghost town, Klondyke rewards visitors with a sense of pioneer history and dramatic desert scenery rather than a bustling destination. Access to this part of Graham County typically involves rural roads, so come prepared with a capable vehicle, adequate water, and realistic expectations about services — there are none to speak of nearby.
