About Husted

Husted is a ghost town in El Paso County, Colorado, situated about 13 miles north of Colorado Springs along the former route of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad. The community took shape in the late 19th century, with its post office opening on October 1, 1878, and serving residents for more than four decades before closing on October 15, 1920. During its active years, the local economy centered on ranching and lumber.

Today Husted is essentially extinct, and visitors should expect little in the way of standing structures or formal amenities. The surrounding landscape and the historical footprint of a once-active railroad stop are the main draws for those curious about Colorado's frontier-era settlements.
