Hickory Ridge

Hickory Ridge is a vanished unincorporated community in Prince William County, Virginia, its former footprint now absorbed into Prince William Forest Park, a National Park Service unit sitting alongside Marine Corps Base Quantico.

The settlement came into being shortly after the Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine opened in 1889, growing up around the workforce that kept the operation running. When the mine eventually ceased operations, the community that depended on it faded with it, leaving no functioning town behind.

Visitors today are really stepping into a national park rather than a traditional ghost town with standing structures. Prince William Forest Park offers the access point, and any remnants of Hickory Ridge exist within that protected landscape. Check current National Park Service guidance before visiting, as proximity to the Marine Corps base can affect access in the area.
