About Guston

Guston is a ghost town in Ouray County, Colorado, situated in Champion Gulch near Red Mountain. A mining camp dating to 1883, it sits roughly 11 miles south of Ouray along the Million Dollar Highway and once had its own post office, which operated from early 1892 through late 1898. The Silverton Railroad connected Guston at Red Mountain Pass to Silverton in San Juan County, underscoring its role in the region's mining era.

Visitors today will find a historic remnant landscape near the remains of Red Mountain Town and Ironton. The setting itself is the main draw — high-country terrain along one of Colorado's most celebrated mountain roads. Access follows the Million Dollar Highway, making a stop here a natural addition to a scenic drive through the area. Winter brings serious hazards at this elevation, so visits are most practical from late spring through early fall.
