About Greenhorn

Greenhorn sits along the Blue Mountain ridge in Oregon, straddling the line between Baker and Grant counties. Though it carries official city status, the place is nearly empty today — a relic of the gold industry that once drew people to this remote corner of the state. Because the bulk of the settlement fell on the Baker County side, and residents historically looked to Baker City for services and civic matters, it has long been administered as part of Baker County.

For visitors, Greenhorn is a quiet, atmospheric stop rather than a developed destination. The setting along the ridge is the draw — open skies, rural solitude, and the faint imprint of a community that once had reason to exist here. Come with modest expectations, a full tank of gas, and an awareness that mountain access roads at this elevation are typically snowbound outside of summer and early fall.
