Grass Creek

Grass Creek is a ghost town in Summit County, Utah, roughly 8 miles northeast of Coalville. Coal mining drove the settlement's existence, and at its peak it functioned as a meaningful hub of that industry before eventually being abandoned.

The town was occupied from around 1860 to 1940, an arc of about eight decades that traces the rise and fall of a working community tied entirely to a single resource. When the industry faded, so did the town.

Visitors today come to see what remains of that era. As with most ghost towns, the experience is less about intact structures and more about sensing a place that once held real daily life. The setting in Summit County provides its own quiet appeal for photography and exploration.
