Gold Center

Gold Center is a ghost town in Nye County, Nevada, born out of the Bullfrog Mining District. The community took shape in December 1904, and a United States Post Office was authorized there just weeks later, in January 1905. By 1907 the town had grown enough to support its own newspaper.

Its location gave it real practical advantages in its day. Sitting along the stagecoach route connecting Rhyolite and Beatty, it saw steady traffic, and proximity to the Amargosa River supplied enough water to support drinking needs, two mills, and an ice house — infrastructure that spoke to serious local ambitions.

Today Gold Center is a quiet desert site where visitors come to absorb the atmosphere of a vanished Nevada boomtown. The sparse high-desert setting and the broader Bullfrog Mining District context make it a rewarding stop for history-minded travelers and photographers. Access is via the roads connecting Beatty and the surrounding area; the mild shoulder seasons of spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit, as summers in this part of Nevada can be intensely hot.
