About Factoryville

Factoryville is a ghost town in Cass County, Nebraska, situated roughly midway between the communities of Union and Nehawka. At its peak, it was a genuine small-town hub, home to a flour mill, hotels, stores, a post office, and a Methodist institution known as Factoryville College — a notable range of amenities for a frontier settlement.

The town dates to the late 1850s and had an eventful naming history: in 1873 it was renamed Union Mills, only to revert to Factoryville by 1880. It once shared the area with a smaller neighboring village called Mount Pleasant, and the main road through town connected to the Lincoln-Union Highway.

Today Factoryville exists in name only. Visitors will find a quiet rural Nebraska landscape rather than surviving structures or interpretive markers. It suits those with an interest in regional history and a willingness to explore on their own terms, ideally in the warmer months when country roads are most accessible.
