About Eagle City

Eagle City is a ghost town in Garfield County, Utah, tucked into Bromide Basin in the remote Henry Mountains of southern Utah. Its roots trace to around 1890, when it emerged as a gold mining camp drawing prospectors into these isolated highlands.

The settlement's active era was short-lived. By the time World War I began, Eagle City had been largely abandoned — though remarkably, one resident held on all the way into the 1970s, making it a ghost town with an unusually long, if quiet, final chapter.

The Henry Mountains are rugged and genuinely remote, and visitors should expect limited infrastructure and rough access roads. The high-basin setting means summer and early fall offer the most reliable window for a visit, while winter conditions can make the area impassable. Those who make the trip will find a historic mining landscape in a dramatic southern Utah setting — rewarding for photography and backcountry sightseeing, but requiring solid trip planning and self-sufficiency.
