Doaksville

Doaksville is a ghost town in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, with roots in the forced relocation of the Choctaw people from their southeastern homelands during the late 1820s and early 1830s. The community took its name from Josiah Stuart Doak, who co-owned a trading post that helped anchor early settlement in the area. For a time, Doaksville grew into a meaningful center of life in Indian Territory, its fortunes closely tied to the presence of nearby Fort Towson. When the U.S. Army withdrew from that post in 1854, the town's decline followed.
