Courtland

Courtland is a ghost town in Cochise County, Arizona, born out of a copper boom that drew settlers to the area beginning in 1909. It sits at the base of the Dragoon Mountains, roughly fifteen miles northeast of Tombstone, and takes its name from Courtland Young, a co-owner of the Great Western Mining Company whose copper operations sparked the town's founding.

Visitors today find a sparse landscape of ruins and remnants — the kind of quiet, windswept scene typical of Arizona's abandoned copper-era settlements. The setting against the Dragoon Mountains provides a striking backdrop, and the proximity to Tombstone makes Courtland a natural add-on for anyone exploring the historic sites of Cochise County.

Access is straightforward for most of the year, though Arizona's desert winters can bring cold temperatures and occasional rough road conditions.
