About Connellsville

Connellsville holds the distinction of being the earliest settlement in what is now Emery County, Utah. Established as a coal mining and coke manufacturing center, it occupied a site high in Coal Canyon near the head of Huntington Canyon in the county's northwestern corner, and was inhabited from 1874 to 1878.

Today, visiting Connellsville in any traditional sense is impossible — the town now lies completely submerged beneath Electric Lake. There are no visible remains, no ruins to explore, and no historic structures to photograph. The lake itself is the only thing a visitor will encounter at the site.
