About Carrara

Carrara is a ghost town sitting in the Amargosa Desert of Nye County, Nevada, positioned just off US Route 95 roughly 8.5 miles southeast of Beatty. The former Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad line passed about half a mile to the southwest, giving the townsite its historic connection to regional commerce.

The most compelling feature for visitors is the old road that follows a former railroad grade northeast from the townsite, running straight for approximately 3 miles up Carrara Canyon along the southeast flank of the Bare Mountains. That route leads to an old marble quarry sitting roughly 1,400 feet higher in elevation than the town below — a dramatic rise that puts the destination in sharp physical perspective.

There is little left at the townsite itself, as befits a desert ghost town. The appeal is the remote setting, the traceable industrial corridor stretching up the canyon, and the quarry at its end. US Route 95 provides straightforward access, and the desert location means summer heat is a serious consideration — cooler months make for a far more comfortable visit.
