About Carpenter's Mill

Carpenter's Mill is a ghost town in Liberty Township, Delaware County, Ohio, with roots going back to a mill built around 1805 along the Whetstone River. That early mill served as the nucleus around which a small community eventually formed.

The settlement gained enough standing to receive its own post office designation in 1832, though that status lasted only five years before the post office was discontinued in 1837. The community faded from there, leaving behind the quiet legacy of a place that never fully took hold.

Visitors today should arrive with modest expectations. Little documentation exists of standing structures or formal access points, and this is fundamentally a site of historical curiosity rather than a developed destination. The rural Delaware County setting along the Whetstone River may offer some scenic interest for those drawn to quiet, off-the-beaten-path Ohio history.
