Bear River City

Bear River City is a ghost town in Uinta County, Wyoming, with roots in a brief but intense period of railroad expansion. Between 1867 and 1868, it sprang up almost overnight as a railroad town along the Overland Trail and the Emigrant Trail, at that time within the Utah Territory. Its location, roughly ten miles southeast of present-day Evanston, placed it along corridors that had long funneled travelers westward.

Today the site offers little in the way of standing structures — this was never a place built to last, and its lifespan was measured in months rather than years. Visitors drawn to railroad-era history or the legacy of the overland emigrant routes will find it a contemplative, spare destination where the landscape itself carries more presence than any remaining built fabric.
